Sour Cream Coffee Cake

Every Christmas Brunch my Mom makes this Sour Cream Coffee Cake. My Grammie Abbott made it every year on Christmas morning when my Mom was growing up and now this is a staple item at our Christmas brunch each year. I never make this any other time of the year as it is a special tradition I look forward to every Christmas season! During the holidays I double this recipe and split between 4 mini loaf pans to create great food gifts for friends!

coffee cake:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream together butter and sugar. Add 2 eggs. Sift together in a separate bowl flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add alternatively to sour cream. Add vanilla. Pour into lightly greased tube pan. Mix together cinnamon, sugar, and chopped nut topping. Sprinkle on top of coffee cake mixture in tube pa. Bake for 40 minutes.
